Independencia - Filipino movie in Helsinki on Sunday, November 7

Lens Politica – Film and Media Art Festival in Helsinki 3. - 7.11.2010 will be held for the fifth time this year. It will introduce us some Southeast Asian films, among them one famous movie from the Philippines:

INDEPENDENCIA (Ohjaus: Raya Martin, Philippines, France, Germany, Netherlands | 2009 | 77 min | fiction). Independencia, an experimental drama by a Philipino director, fazes the audience by exploiting the conventions of silent films in its dreamy, studio-like, black and white footage from the jungle. A young man flees from the war to the jungle with his mother. Sexuality, the death of the mother, and birth of a baby in the jungle raise questions about civilization and destructiveness of shared life. The jungle is an isolated paradise, where the American soldiers appear as mystical, luminous figures to the child, who was raised there. The film was screened in 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It is a comment on the American invasion of the Philippines at the beginning of the 20th century by internationally praised independent film director Raya Martin.

Screened in Cinema Andorra, Eerikinkatu 11, Sunday, November 7 at 2 pm.

Lens Politica
Film and Media Art Festival 3 - 7 November 2010, Helsinki
Opening screening 3 November 7 pm at Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (Kaikukatu 4)
Opening club 3 November 9 pm at Siltanen, (Hämeentie 13)
Film screenings & Festival clubs 4 to 7 November at Andorra&Dubrovnik (Eerikinkatu 11)
