Finnish-Philippine Society 20 years and Noel Cabangon’s concert in Helsinki, Finland, October 29, 2008

A revised edition of the book ”Filippiinit – myrskyjen ja mahdollisuuksien saaristo” (2. edition, 2008) was launched in the 20th anniversary celebration. The book is an updated overview of history and culture of the Philippines, and environmental and social issues in the country. The writers are members and friends of the Finnish-Philippine Society.

Maarit Huhtaniemi-Avellan interviewing Tove Selin who has edited the book ”Filippiinit – myrskyjen ja mahdollisuuksien saaristo”. The new revised edition was launched in the event.

Meg Sakilayan-Latvala (in microphone) and Anna Piskonen told about their work among children in the Philippines.

Meg worked previously in shelters for abused children in different places in the Philippines.

Anna Piskonen worked in the Philippines for a couple of years as a voluntary worker sent by the organization Allianssi, Finland, and also worked for UNICEF, Manila.

Some 80 persons participated the celebration in the Brazilian restaurant Bossa in Helsinki.

Noel Cabangon performed in Finland now for the first time. His songs tell about simple everyday life and love of Filipinos.

The Finnish-Philippine Society was founded in 1988. A Power Point presentation about the history of the Society was shown.

In the place mats on tables were displayed the lyrics of ”Simpleng Pilipino”, one of Noel Cabangon’s songs, in Filipino and Finnish languages.
